Europe

I spent the month of June in Europe touring around France, going to the Annecy Festival, and making this animated short  in Wrexham called Cook With Dan with a group of students from UArts (Philadelphia, PA, USA), Glyndwr (Wrexham, Wales), and EESI (Angouleme/Poitier, France). It was completed in two glorious weeks.

Friendships were made and touristy things were done.

Talents were realized, such as Giselle's knack for making comical chicken calls.

Graduation

The past couple months have been really loaded. I finished my senior animation and learned a lot of from it.  UArts gave me an award for best animation. Though I felt like many of us deserved it, it's probably the first meaningful award I've gotten.

Graduated on Thursday. Neil Gaiman was there and he had amazing words to say to us.

Found a summer internship that I'll be doing until I travel to Europe for the first time.  In England, I'll be working with students on a short film, which I spent most of last night storyboarding.  I'm actually busier right now than I was as an undergrad but it's beginning to feel very rewarding.

Flower Power!

Tried applying a flower that I drew to particle world in After Effects, and I was successful thanks to a guy named Kevin who answered to this forum.

Meanwhile, I attended a Student Employee of the Year Award luncheon today because I was nominated. I didn't win, but it's certainly nice to know that I'm appreciated!

Astrid

I put on How to Train Your Dragon (my favorite movie) while I was working today and wound up drawing a quick, messy sketch of Astrid. I didn't have much time to make it accurate, though. I can't wait to be done with all my projects!

Where did March go?!

April is in a few days. I didn't even see March fly by. I just got back from Don Hertzfeldt's show at the IFC Center in NY where they screened all three parts of his Everything will be ok trilogy and other short films. My friends were asking me if it was really worth the 2 hour bus ride back and forth. YES!

Also this month, I got this cool souvenir from my dentist: an x-ray of my molars. Unfortunately, the whole story behind it cost me lots of money. I don't want to talk about it.

Here's a sketch of what I've been doing on my own time. This week is hectic so I'll finish it later. Right now, I want to redo the middle character.
I'm still trying to figure out a signature. My handwriting is terrible so I tried the Chinese seal-like signature, which I think is becoming a bit cliched. But WHY NOT? A comic book artist has already taken the AH signature (actually it's AH!), so I don't want to use that. And ACH just makes me think of the sound people make when they're disgusted. I've always been hesitant of using A. Ho as a signature for obvious reasons, but perhaps it's time to embrace it.
